Nerd confession: The biggest reason I got interested in Japan and Asia (and, subsequently, traveling around the world, picking up so many languages, making amazing friends…) was because I was obsessed with Rurouni Kenshin. When I went back to Tokyo for four days in September, I knew I had to see the latest Kenshin movie in a theater. (I had seen the first one at a convention with a room full of people from my weeaboo generation, and it was fucking magical, but that’s another story.)
And let me tell you, if my 16-year-old self knew that one day there would be a live action Kenshin movie and that she’d be watching it in Shinjuku and understanding like 70% of the spoken Japanese, she’d have had a stroke. I grinned like an idiot for the rest of the night.
Like hold on to your fukkin’ nerd dreams and hobbies, even the small ones, guys, they can lead to awesome shit, you just never know.
